The May general membership meeting of the Victor Valley Association of Realtors
The May general membership meeting of the Victor Valley Association of
Realtors, sponsored this month by Alaska USA Mortgage Company, opened with a
special tribute to V.V.A.R. members who are veterans warm words of thanks
and appreciation from President Cecil Volsch and rousing applause from the
group.
Robin Davidson of Shear Realty received her Realtor pin from Caroll Yule.
Two affiliates were introduced Gene Logan of Advantage Title and Julie
Kruger of Stewart Title. Additional affiliates included Karissa Malorca,
Cimarron Escrow, Inc.; Michael Karen, Daily Press; Steve Bliss, Hesperia
Transfer & Storage, and Janet Walliser, Priority Title.
The featured speaker was Robert Kleinhenz, Deputy Economist for the
California Association of Realtors. His presentation on the housing economy
included a statement that uncertainty makes people fearful of
decision-making. Economic growth as evidenced by the private sector is
sluggish. The state unemployment rate is just under 12 percent.
Robert said that while fuel and food are more expensive and these are two
items everyone buys as far as inflation goes, “we are in decent shape.”
The Federal tax credits helped increase home sales in the past year, but
this year, “We’re on our own.” The median home price is just under $300,000,
and Robert predicted this would be the lowest the median price would go
during the remainder of the year.
The V.V.A.R. nominating committee has prepared the slate of candidates for
the coming elections in July. Members running for Director are Michael
Knight, Lisa McDaniels, Lisa Reichert, Val Renzick, Karen Sanchez, Serena
White, and Catherine M. Haney.
Lupe Alvarado is running unopposed for Treasurer. Betty Henderson and Don
Jensen are running for Secretary. Michelle Davies is President-elect, and
Bess Klein will be installed as new President in November.
Special affairs included a reminder to support the non-perishable food
drive. The Annual Charity Golf Tournament will be held September 12, with
money going to support local charities. A new car will be given away as well
as trips and other fantastic prizes. Four iPads are being raffled off, with
a limit of 1,000 tickets at $5 each. The drawing will be held in November or
sooner if all the tickets are sold.
“Christmas in July” boutique is coming with booths inside the V.V.A.R.
building as well as on the parking lot. Members with in-home businesses or
crafters with items to sell are invited to participate.
